The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria,
Rev. Felix Omobude, has denied endorsing any candidate for the Edo State
governorship election.
Omubude, who is also the General Superintendent of the New Covenant
Gospel Church, stated this in Benin, Edo State, on Monday while
reacting to reports in the media (not The PUNCH).
The PFN president was reported to have played host to the candidate
of the All Progressives Congress, Godwin Obaseki, where he dismissed
allegations by opposition parties that Obaseki would islamise the state,
if elected as Governor.
Omobude was quoted to have said, “The issue of anybody imposing
religion on the other in Edo State is not an issue. Predominantly, this
state is more of Christian, so we are not afraid.
“I think it beholds on all political office holders wherever in the
country to be fair to all and not to be seen as pushing one against the
other.”
He frowned at what he described as distortions in the said reports, some of which he said were “complete falsehood”.
While speaking through his media aide, Deacon Ralph Okhiria, the
PFN president said, “Our attention has been drawn to some recent
publications in some print and social media in respect to the visit of
the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Mr. Godwin
Obaseki, to Rev. Felix Omobude, the National President of Pentecostal
Fellowship of Nigeria and General Superintendent of New Covenant Gospel
Church.
“Omobude is saddened at attempts by these publications to drag his name into partisan politics.”
He, therefore, assured all the candidates and political parties that he remained apolitical.
He also prayed that God’s choice for Edo State would emerge through a democratic process.
“The PFN national president also urges all Edo people to seize the
opportunity which democracy offers to exercise their franchise, by
voting for the candidate of their choice,” he added.
