Controversial Paris Saint-Germain defender Serge Aurier has been sentenced to two months in prison for violence against a police officer.
The Ivorian international elbowed his victim as he left a Paris nightclub in May, although he will remain free pending an appeal.
This isn’t the first time that Aurier is being in the news for negative reasons, as he had also previously aimed derogatory comments at goalkeeper keeper Salvatore Sirigu, defender Gregory van der Wiel and striker Edinson Cavani and the right-back was subsequently suspended by his after he also insulted his then boss Laurent Blanc on video, suggesting the coach was involved in sexual activity with star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Despite the sentencing, Aurier, who had pleaded not guilty to the charges, should be available for PSG's Champions League clash against Ludogorets on Wednesday.
“We're appealing. Mr Aurier contests the findings. He's not guilty and must be acquitted,” lawyer Claire Boutard de la Combe told reporters.
PSG will be up against Arsenal in the return fixture of their Group A campaign at the Emirates on November 23, following their 1-1 in Paris earlier this month.
Aurier has also been fined £521 and told to pay court costs totalling £1,300.
The news comes after a miserable start to the season for the 23-year old.
Aurier put through his own net as the champions crashed to defeat against Monaco last month, then was sent-off as PSG slumped to a 2-0 loss at Toulouse on Friday.
