– Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be facing Pep Guardiola six years since they parted ways
– The duo come face to face this weekend for the first Manchester derby at Old Trafford
– Guardiola and Ibrahimovic had a clash of egos when they both worked at Barcelona
For the first time in six years, Zlatan Ibrahimovic will face his former boss, Pep Guardiola in this weekend’s Manchester derby. Both city rivals come head to head at Old Trafford on Saturday and it seems Ibrahimovic has not erased the feud with his former coach six years on. In his 2013 autobiograghy titled ‘I Am Zlatan’, the 34-year-old took a swipe at Guardiola, comparing his time under Jose Mourinho and Spanish tactician.
“If Mourinho brightens up the room, Guardiola pulls down the curtains,” the Swede said. Ibrahimovic also recalled his experience with Pep the night Barcelona were eliminated in the Champions League semi final by the Mourinho-led Inter Milan.
“I yelled: ‘You haven’t got any balls!’ and worse than that I added: ‘You can go to hell!’ “I completely lost it, and you might have expected Guardiola to say a few words in response, but he’s a spineless coward. “He just picked up the metal box, like a little caretaker, and then left, never to mention it again, not a word,” the ex-AC Milan forward stated. It was obvious that after the dressing room incident, Zlatan’s days were numbered at the Nou Camp as his five-year contract was cut short to a loan spell with AC Milan before he was eventually sold to PSG. Guardiola has been quiet since the issue between them broke out and Saturday’s game will certainly bring the pair face to face at the Theatre of Dreams.
