
Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state, on Tuesday, approved the appointment of Mrs Petra Akinti Onyegbule as the chief press secretary to the state government.
According to The Cable, Onyegbule’s appointment makes her the first ever female chief press secretary in Kogi state and the first to also be appointed in that capacity in Nigeria’s conservative north.
Mrs Petra Akinti Onyegbule has been appointed as Kogi state’s first ever female Chief Press Secretary (CPS). This was confirmed by Yahaya Bello, governor of Kogi state, on Tuesday, October 4.
Before her new role, she was Governor Bello’s special assistant on new media. She is also the second ever female CPS in Nigeria and first in her position in northern Nigeria. She is also presently the only female CPS. However, the outspoken lady in excitement took to her Twitter page to express grattitude to all her well-wishers. Se tweet below.
The online newspaper also states that Onyegbule is only the second woman to be appointed as the chief press secretary to any state government in Nigeria’s history and presently the only woman holding such office.
Prior to her appointment as chief press secretary, Onyegbule served as the senior special assistant to the Kogi state governor on electronic media.
She has in times past displayed strong support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the run-up to the 2015 general elections and is seen as one of the major influencers in the political corner of Nigeria’s social media space.
