Campus Entrepreneur Of The Week: ODESANYA ADESEWA Creating Exquisite Handmade Bags


Adesewa, who described herself as a creative child of God with a passion for fashion, books, and creativity, is a graduate of Redeemer’s University of Nigerian (RUN) and a postgraduate student of the University of Ibadan (UI).


The young and buding entrepreneur while speaking with Greennews.ng noted that she is passionate about creating durable handbags with designs that are unique, vibrant and feminine.

Adesewa believes that bags are both functional and fashionable. Handbags are an essential and indispensable accessory for every lady, as they express independent styles and are functional for everyday use.

Speaking on the types of bags she makes, she listed the different styles to include clutches, tote bags, purses, slingbags, envelopes and big bags. What make’s Adesewa’s works to be appealing and different is that she uses local and African materials such as leather, suede, jean and African fabrics. ”They are unique for different occasions and the Prosperelle brand stands for durable quality bags made delicately with an eye to details,” she added.

Narrating how she ventured into the business, the creative entrepreneur said ”love of designs and creativity inspired my brand.”

For Adesewa, her start-up capital was N8000 and the her business has been active since 2014.

At the start up stage of her business, she said her parents were very supportive, ”They were excited and thrilled. Both of them supportted me wholeheartedly.”

Is she in a Relationship? ”Not at the moment”.

Speaking about how she was able to combine business and studies, ”Its easy to combine both business and academics once you have a priority checklist. For me, academics comes first as it happens to be my primary reason for being in school. Effective time management is also very essential.”

Accomplished? :Well so far, I can say the business has grown and it is not where it used to be when I started in 2014 and I believe it will get to greater heights.

”I relax by reading different genres of books. My favorite is Christian fiction,” she said.

For now, the budding enterpreneur said she the bulk of her profits goes back into the business. Her business models include Ibukun Awosika and Tara Durotoye.

Sewa like every other enterprenuer has a huge dream for her business, ”In the next five years, I aspire for my brand to become a household name and cater for an international audience”.

”And for students who want to combine schooling and business, it is important to have a balance at all times. Hence, there should be a balance between academics and business.”
