US President-elect Donald Trump says he won’t take a penny of the £320,000 salary he is entitled to when he takes office in January, 2017.
The billionaire, who won a surprise victory in the presidential election this week, told a rally he wouldn’t take a cent.
Speaking to supporters in New Hampshire during the campaign in September 2015, he said: “The first thing I’m going to do is tell you that if I’m elected president, I’m accepting no salary, okay?
“That’s not a big deal for me.”
This week Forbes magazine estimated that Trump is worth around £2.9billion but he has previously said his personal fortune is greater than £10billion, the UK sun reported.
In both cases they chose to donate their salaries to charity.
Although Trump hasn’t mentioned his promise regarding his salary since winning the election, he is expected to stick to his word and refuse the pay-packet.
