Governor Willy Obiano of Anambra state has lauded the efforts of the Nigerian Army, in restoring peace to troubled areas within the Southeast. Chief Obiano, commended the operation Python Dance inaugurated by the Nigerian military.
According to The Punch, Obiano said those condemning the exercise had no reason to do so.
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) and some rights groups in the zone had condemned the military over Python dance.
They argued that it would inflict hardship on the people.
Obiano while receiving the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Brurati, at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre, Awka, the state capital, urged the people of the state to the military.
He said: “They are not Army of occupation as being labelled by IPOB and MASSOB, and others, especially on the internet".
“Nobody will be molested,” Obiano assured. He urged the people to cooperate with the army in sustaining the relative peace in the state.
Meanwhile, the IPOB has declared Operation David Dance to counter the Nigerian Army’s Operation Python Dance which was launched in the south-east geopolitical zone recently.
The group in a statement on Tuesday, December 6 in Awka, Anambra state, by IPOB’s media and publicity secretary, Emma Powerful, said the Operation David Dance is recognised by the God Almighty in the Bible.
IPOB, however, called on its members to avoid confrontation with the army which it accused of planning to murder more south easterners in the name of providing security.
