Umahi To Offset N8bn 23 Years Retired Workers Gratuity

Dave Umahi
Ebonyi State Governor, Chief Dave Umahi, has pledged to pay gratuity
arrears owed retired workers of both state and local governments levels since 1993 which amounted to over N8billion.

He said the payment would commence this month.
Umahi made the disclosure at a one-day official visit to the state-owned university, EBSU, Ezzamgbo, Abakaliki.
The governor who expressed dismay that civil servants find it difficult to pay their retired colleagues their pensions but would want to be paid when they retired, said the payment of gratuities would begin this December with the families of retirees who had already died.
He noted that those that had died would be first paid through their families to alleviate their suffering.
