EDO ELECTION: HEAVY SECURITY AT THE SENATORIAL DISTRICT

There was a heavy presence of security personnel comprising of soldiers and police in the Edo-Central senatorial district on Wednesday.



There were many soldiers in Ekpoma, Irrua and on the way to Uromi.

The soldiers prevented vehicles from coming and leaving the senatorial district.

Articulated vehicles numbering about 40 were asked to park at the popular Borehole Junction in Ekpoma.

A police helicopter was also hovering over the sky to monitor the situation of things in the district believed to be a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The voters were orderly while the security agencies intermittently cautioned some overzealous voters to be calm.

At Central Primary School, Iruekpen, Ward 6, Esan-West, seats were provided for the aged who were given consideration for voting before others.

At about 6.30pm, the deputy governorship candidate for the PDP, John Yakubu, stormed the ward collation centre at Arue Pry School, Uromi, with his supporters.

The PDP had already won seven of the eight polling units declared in the ward as of 7pm while the APC won one.

A former chairman, Board of Trustees of the PDP, Chief Tony Anenih, won in his polling unit by 123 votes against APC’s 48.

At Ward 6, Unit 1, Usugberu in Irrua, the officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission resorted to manual accreditation after the card readers failed to function properly.
