A Ugandan soldier attached to the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) died at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi, on Tuesday night just 10 minutes after he landed.
The soldier and three others had been airlifted to Nairobi for specialised treatment after their vehicle was hit by a landmine in the seaport town of Barawe, about 220km south of the capital Mogadishu.
A report by the Kenya Airports Police Unit indicated that a United Nations aircraft, registration number UN 657P, landed at Terminal 2 on Tuesday night at around 9.17pm (+3GMT) with the injured peacekeepers.
At around 9.30pm, a Uganda People’s Defence Forces doctor, Captain Richard Mwase, pronounced the injured soldier dead.
