The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Plateau State has challenged in court the defection of the Senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, Senator Joshua Dariye, in the National Assembly to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chairman of the state’s PDP, Mr. Damishi Sango, disclosed this yesterday during the inauguration of State Elders, Finance and Reconciliatory Committees of the party, at the party’s office in Jos.
He said the party has also written Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to declare vacant, the seat of Dairye and urged Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to fill the seat with PDP nominee.
“The party is not sleeping over his defection. We have written to the Senate President demanding that the Senate position of Plateau Central Senatorial District be declared vacant and INEC set a machinery to fill in the position by a PDP nominee.
He insisted that it was criminal for Dariye to defect to APC with the mandate of PDP after betraying the trust and mandate of the people.
“If INEC and National Assembly refuse to act in accordance with section 68 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution, we will challenge that in court for interpretation. In fact, as we are talking now, the case has been filed to compel Dariye to vacate the PDP seat.”
