Nyesom Wike |
The Governor accused INEC of allegedly manipulating the rerun electoral process in the state because it had an alleged instruction to deliver victory to an opposition party
Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state has expressed fears over the possibility of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to give credible general elections to Nigerians in 2019.
He spoke on Thursday when the Chief Charles Harry-led national executive of the Ijaw National Congress, INC, paid him a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He maintained that Nigerians should say goodbye to credible elections in 2019 if the electoral body continued in its alleged fraud.
According to Wike, “If INEC goes on with this type of electoral fraud, then Nigeria is in trouble in 2019. What type of country are we living in when there is open electoral stealing?
“It is shocking and embarrassing that several months after INEC suspended elections in eight Local Government Areas, it has come up to concoct fake results for Tai Local Government Area.”
"They want to allocate seats to a man who took our money to sponsor their party. They said they don’t want to embarrass him for giving them our money. While declaring that the people would not be intimidated by alleged plot to impose legislators on them, he said, “I don’t believe in violence, but nobody should trample with our rights”.
In his remarks, the INC President, Chief Harry lauded the Governor for the successes of his administration, assuring Wike of the continued support of the Ijaws.
