Come To Our Aids – Otuoke Residents Appeals Governor Dickson


Residents of Otuoke, the hometown of former President Goodluck Jonathan, have appealed to Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state to alleviate their suffering caused by flooding.


The resident told the News Agency of Nigeria in separate interviews that the Otuoke-Onuebum road is in a deplorable condition and needs urgent repair.Ologi Damiete, a staff of the Federal University, Otuoke (FUO), said since the last rainy season, vehicles have been finding it difficult to pass through the road.

“The condition of this road has become worse since the flood that submerged the whole community and there has not been any preventive measure to forestall future occurrence,”

he said.“We are expecting the government to put necessary measures in place to guard against future occurrence.


“Students of FUO have resumed for the new semester and they have been finding it difficult moving in and out of the community.

“I am calling on all the relevant authorities to look into the matter because it has become unbearable. Our vehicles have been damaged because of the road."

Another resident, Oweifa Debekeme, said it was the responsibility of the government to alleviate their agony by providing roads and other infrastructure.

He urged the state government to make more efforts toward checking flooding in the community.

Similarly, Babatunde Adeola, a taxi driver plying the road, called on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to also help repair the road to alleviate the plight of the people.


He said the road which was in a bad shape before but was completely destroyed by the flood.

He said the youths in the communities now help by sand-filling the bad portions on regular basis, adding that “commercial drivers now pay them for that”.

Meanwhile, Goodluck Jonathan has said that his decision to concede defeat to Muhammadu Buhari after the 2015 presidential election was based on the pursuit of achieving peace for the country and not an order from anyone.

The former president made this comment on Saturday, December 17 when he was awarded a honorary doctorate degree at Bingham university alongside General Yakubu Gowon.

In a series of tweets via his official account, Jonathan spoke highly about the former head of state while he also insisted that his desire for peace and stability in Nigeria remains strong.
