TEENAGER'S RAPE: POLICE KEEP MUM ABOUT INSPECTOR'S WHEREABOUTS

THE Akwa Ibom State Police Command has remained silent over the whereabouts of the police inspector, who allegedly raped a 15-year-old school girl at gunpoint.

The incident reportedly happened at Iyadiong, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state.

It was also learnt that the said inspector had detained the teenage girl after raping her in a nearby bush.

Southern City News observed that since the incident that occurred on July 16, 2016, the state Police Command had yet to speak on actions taken on the inspector.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Cordelia Nwawe, had earlier in August said that the command was still investigating the matter.

Nwawe had stated that if the inspector and his men were found guilty, the police would punish them, just as some Nigerians continued to demand the arrest and prosecution of the inspector.

One of them, Jerry Emmanuel, said through the online version of The PUNCH that the action of the inspector was condemnable.

“What a horrible tale from an under-aged girl. With this sort of policemen, we are all in deep trouble.”

Also, Ajayi Olupono, called on the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to look into the case urgently, arrest and prosecute the suspect.

He said, “The helpless little bleeding girl was taken to the guardroom instead of rushing her to the hospital.”
