Gunmen on Saturday night attacked Zankan village, a Fulani settlement in Kaura Local Governemnt Area of Kaduna State and killed one person and injured five others.
The Police in Kaduna on Sunday confirmed the attack.
The spokesman for the command, ASP Aliyu Usman, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kaduna that the incident occurred at about 8.30 p.m. on Saturday.
He said that one person was killed and five others injured in the attack.
“The dead and the injured persons have been taken to the nearest medical centre in Ganawuri town, Plateau State,” Usman said.
He, however, said that investigation into the incident had commenced.
“We are trailing the suspects behind the attack, but so far, no arrest has been made.
“We are, however, optimistic that the additional police operatives deployed in the area will fish out the culprits very soon,” he said.
The spokesman reiterated the commitment of the command to secure citizens and property in the state, saying “we will not allow lawlessness to thrive.”
Meanwhile, traditional rulers in Kaduna State met with the state Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, over the recent killings in three local governments of Southern Kaduna.
The three affected local governments are Jema’a, Zango-Kataf and Kaura and are currently under curfew imposed by the state in the wake the crisis.
El-Rufai told the visiting emirs and chiefs that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Yusuf Buratai, had approved the establishment of two battalions in Southern Kaduna.
He explained that one battalion would be stationed in Kafanchan, the commercial centre of Southern Kaduna and the other one in Kachia.
According to him, the state government is looking for a place in Kafanchan to provide the army a temporary settlement before a barrack will be constructed for them.
The governor said, “I have met the Chief of Army Staff and he has approved the establishment of two battalions in Sothern Kaduna; one in Kafanchan and the other one in Kachia.
“We are starting with Kafanchan, then that of Kachia will follow. We hope that this will douse the fear in the mind of people as the military presence will build confidence and we hope that their presence will help in confronting the attackers, especially with the added surveillance aircraft.”
The governor vowed to fished out those behind the violence and prosecute them.
